Wastemonitor.org is now launched Article By: Michael Schleifer 03/12/2005 - 10:17:36 Wastemonitor collects and archives satellite data (waypoints) and digital photography of the various areas around Cyprus where legal or illegal waste dumps are being created, the end result will be a map of monitored and unmonitored waste dumps in the un-occupied area of the Republic of Cyprus.
We invite everyone to monitor the land around them. When you observe something which is relevant to waste the only thing required is to take a digital picture and satellite waypoint if in possession of a GPS. Those who don't have GPS equipment can still assist in the reporting by providing digital imagery and approximate location. In order to make sure the data provided is accurate each location will then be verified by a Wastemonitor member.
The site www.wastemonitor.org facilitates the uploading of gathered data. Participants are able to create a new report entering the satellite data along with supporting digital imagery of the waste, selectors enable users to classify approximately the nature of the waste. The waste classification available on the site is a simplified version of the European waste classification catalogue. External Links
